Detroit International Jazz Festival ~ Sept 3-6, 2010
The Detroit International Jazz Festival (DJF) is a major cultural institution, providing year-round concerts and educational programming that culminates in one of the world's premier jazz festivals on Labor Day Weekend. Now in its 31st year, the festival takes place over several city blocks in downtown Detroit - from Hart Plaza to Campus Martius - with five stages and 100 acts over four days.

Night on Drummond Island
I featured a photo by Aaron Jones last Friday on Michigan in Pictures and while I was checking out his work I came across this fantastic time-lapse he shot at Drummond Island. Check out the Perseid meteors toward the end!

Grand Rapids gets ready for ArtPrize 2010 Last year ArtPrize in Grand Rapids launched and was the most successful art event in Michigan's history, attracting 200,000 visitors to see the work of over 1000 artists in every media from fine art to paper airplanes. It is an amazing experience to see this city transformed into a giant gallery teeming with active, engaged crowds.

Porcupine Mountains Music Festival: August 27 - 29, 2010 The sixth annual Porcupine Mountains Music Festival will take place August 27 (Friday), 28 (Saturday), and 29 (Sunday) at the Ski Hill and Chalet Area in the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park, Ontonagon County located in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. The festival will feature folk, blues, bluegrass and contemporary music from top-class nationally touring artists.

Kalamazoo Water Festival ~ August 14, 2010 The Kalamazoo Water Festival happens this Saturday (August 14) at the Arcadia Creek Festival Site in Kalamazoo. While the festival has been planned for months, it's especially poignant this year as the Kalamazoo River watershed is reeling under the largest oil spill in Michigan history. Head over for great music and to meet the people & organizations who are protecting Michigan's water every day!

Dunegrass 2010 to focus on Michigan Music Dunegrass 2010 features camping, food & beverages, local arts and crafts and over 30 bands.
