Invasive Species in the National Parks
Last year the National Park Service produced a series of short documentaries exploring invasive species in the Great Lakes. The series was funded by the Great Lakes Restoration Initiative showing how invaders are changing the ecosystems in national parks and what’s being done to stop them.

Avian botulism: Invasive species double team?
Zebra mussels and quagga mussels filter naturally occurring botulism and other toxins from the water. Round gobies, another problematic invasive species, eat the mussels, and birds, in turn, eat the gobies. The result is beached littered with dead birds.

Michigan Invasive Species: Emerald Ash Borer
Today's invasive species is the emerald ash borer (Agrilus planipennis Fairmaire) an exotic beetle that was discovered in southeastern Michigan near Detroit in the summer of 2002. This pest has killed tens of millions of ash trees in southeastern Michigan alone. Learn about it and how to identify ash trees afflicted and how to halt the spread (don't move firewood!).
