There is magic in the air at the Michigan Womyn's Music Festival. Womyn who want to step out of the mainstream for a week and into the best party on the planet can taste that magic - it has kept Michigan alive, radical, controversial, deeply musical and passionately creative for the past 30 years. For tens of thousands of womyn, Michigan triggers what is akin to tribal memory as we create this intergenerational, international female community each August. It's a place where the music is as diverse as the womyn who attend, where mothers and daughters and granddaughters come together and find their common culture as each rising generation adopts the Festival and makes it their own. Womyn of every age, color, shape, style and attitude gather each year to enjoy a womon-loving cultural extravaganza of our own creation. This year's version includes over 40 performances, hundreds of workshops, a film festival, a crafts fair, and fitness and dance classes. The program will celebrate the artists who have fueled the Festival culture from our beginnings in 1976 and bring together all of the artists who contribute to the Festival's musical heartbeat in the new millennium. The Festival is held on 650 acres of lush Michigan woodlands where you can hike in for the deep woods experience or settle in a busy fireside neighborhood. Don't let your lack of camping savvy scare you off - the Festival has plenty of urban comforts for those who want them. We provide a well-organized system of community services and shuttles, three vegetarian meals a day, open-air hot showers and beautiful, safe campgrounds.
