Mariucci Fired, Jauron Interim Coach The Detroit Lions fired Steve Mariucci yesterday after a 15-28 run. Defensive coordinator Dick Jauron, who had a 35-46 record as head coach of the Chicago Bears from 1999-2003 (including one 13-4 Coach of the Year season in 2001) takes over. Mitch Albom says the Lions are elephant burial ground of coaching, pointing out that no fired Lions head coach has ever held a head coaching job again.
