Sweeping Michigan Welfare Changes ProposedThe Detroit News reports that at the heart of the most sweeping Michigan welfare policy change in a decade is a proposal to set a lifetime limit of 48 months of benefits for those on welfare. Proponents say the changes will free those still trapped on public assistance. Others, such as the Michigan Catholic Conference say adoption of the plan would destroy the state's safety net.
