Bill Threatens Weather Service ForecastsThe Chicago Tribune reports that although the National Weather Service's constantly updated forecasts can be a lifesaver on the unpredictable Great Lakes, these free and comprehensive radio reports could become a thing of the past. A bill sponsored by Sen. Rick Santorum (R-Pa.) would allow the commerce secretary could stop the National Weather Service and its parent, the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, from providing any other "product or service" that private companies could handle.
