GMO Battle Brewing in MichiganThe Lansing State Journal reports on a budding battle in Lansing over legislation that pits natural, chemical-free crops and organic farmers against genetically engineered seeds. Under a bill in the state Senate, Michigan would join 14 other states that have prevented local governments from barring the planting of genetically modified crops. Up to 85 percent of U.S. soybeans are genetically modified, along with 45 percent of corn. It's estimated that 70 percent of processed foods on U.S. grocery shelves contain genetically modified ingredients.
