Super Seiche of 1939The Marquette Mining Journal has a feature about a tremendous seiche (pronounced "saysh") that raised Lake Superior's water level at Marquette Harbor 8 feet on June 16, 1939, shortly after 10:30 AM. A seiche is caused when wind or air pressure changes cause the entire surface of a body of water to rhythmically rock back and forth from shore to shore, and this feature does an excellent job of explaining the phenomenon.More about 1939 Seiche in the Mining Journal click to
