Earth Day Festival 2006, April 22; Ann ArborEARTH DAY FESTVIAL 2006 at UM MATTHAEI BOTANICAL GARDENSCelebrate our natural world at the annual Earth Day Festival on Saturday, April 22, from noon to 4 p.m at the University of Michigan Matthaei Botanical Gardens. This free family-friendly event features hands-on activities from local non-profit organizations, live animal demonstrations, alternative fuel vehicles, live entertainment, and an opportunity to explore miles of nature trails and breathtaking outdoor gardens. Stop by the registration table and pick up an orientation map and passport to guide you through the Earth Day activities. Discover birds of prey at 1 p.m. with the Leslie Science Centerís River Raisin Raptors. Meet these healthy, non-releasable birds up-close and discover how ears, eyes, feathers and feet help them become the hunters of the sky. At 2 p.m., an All Species Parade will wind through the market with costumed individuals representing diverse animals, plants and other species. Interested parade participants may bring their own costume, or may make costume accessories or instruments at The Scrap Box activity table. Free face painting is provided. Earth Day admission is FREE* due to generous grants from and SECURE Eco Shred, who will perform free on-site document shredding and recycling (100 lb. max) for all Earth Day Festival visitors, and from Whole Foods Market. Pilarís Catering will provide light concessions and refreshments. Coordinators from several area organizations and businesses help to produce this wonderful event. The annual Earth Day Festival is an experience for youth and their families to have fun while discovering new ways to make Earth Day every day. Come celebrate with us!
