Kalamazoo Riverfront Brownfield Redevelopment Moves ForwardThe Kalamazoo Gazette reports that groundbreaking for the first major project aimed at transforming Kalamazoo's riverfront from an industrial brownfield to an urban residential, business and recreation center could come as early as the summer of 2007. A study estimates that units in Kalamazoo's central city and riverfront areas have the potential to attract more than 7,000 residents and Martha Aills of the Planning and Development Department said "The new trend in areas like this is mixed-use development where you can have loft or townhouse living and some people may work where they live.
