Absent Reps May Forfeit Pay

The Detroit News reports that Rep. David Law, R-Commerce Township, notes 13 lawmakers missed 100 or more votes during the 2005-06 session and is seeking to dock their pay. Michigan's full-time legislators, second in pay only to California lawmakers, enjoy a liberal vacation policy.

Law, who missed 11 votes, said: ""We're elected to be our constituents' voice, and if legislators aren't here to act as that voice, then their constituents are deprived of representation."
