Michigan's Oscar NightThe Lansing State Journal writes that 700 guests are expected for first Michigan Walk of Fame gala tomorrow night in Lansing. A dozen celebrities and other well-knowns have been chosen for the inaugural class, including Helen Thomas, an award-winning political journalist who was raised in Detroit, and music legend Stevie Wonder who attended Lansing's former Michigan School for the Blind. Both are planning to attend the event along with family or other representatives of the other living inductees - former President Gerald Ford, actor Jeff Daniels and baseball broadcaster Ernie Harwell.According to Kevin Green, executive director of the Lansing Principal Shopping District, the project's purpose is to highlight people who make the state great and to draw visitors to the Capitol City. "A lot of people dismiss Lansing. They don't think Lansing has a history, but we have an incredible history because we are the Capitol City. This is one more way to celebrate our heritage."
