Michigan Job Picture Up (mostly) and DownManpower Inc. analyst Joe Ross says "Michigan's got two economies right now. One is West Michigan, and the rest of the state." 30% of Grand Rapids employers polled by Manpower said they would be hiring between July and September (27% for Holland and 25% for Michigan as a whole). A big driver for the region is life sciences (hospitals, medical device manufacturing and research).In Southeast Michigan, Manpower found that just 10% of employers expect to add staff over quarter 3. In Livingston County, however, a whopping 50% plan to add staff. According to a press release accompanying the survey results, "the Livingston County employment outlook is the ninth best in the nation." Manpower's forecast for Lansing pegged the capital city's summer employment outlook as one of the worst in the US (only 17% plan to hire).
