30th Annual National Strawberry Festival This Weekend

The Freep has a feature on the decline of the big strawberry farms in the Ypsilanti-Belleville area and the strawberry business in general. This weekend (June 16-18) is the 30th anniversary of the National Strawberry Festival, which organizers say attracts 200,000 people annually. While the festival is a big success, the Freep writes:
Farmland has become worth more for houses than crops, and people have less time to drive out to the country and pick fruit. As a result, the five farms that once grew 100 acres of strawberries within a few miles of Belleville have dwindled to one - Rowe's.
