Michigan Fails to Support EntrepreneursThe 2006 Michigan Entrepreneurship Score Card gave Michigan a grade of D in entrepreneurial dynamism. The study found the state ranked below average in most categories (above average in "education & workforce"). Mark Clevey, Small Business Foundation of Michigan executive director pointed out "Study after study has shown that nearly all net new jobs are created by small business entrepreneurs - not big businesses. It is ominous for our state's economic future that Michigan continues to struggle to support entrepreneurship."Clevey suggest that greater attention needs to be paid to entrepreneurial education, economic development strategy, access to capital, technology commercialization and developing a business climate that nurtures entrepreneurs.
