DeVos Plan: Cut Taxes, Create JobsThe Freep reports that Dick DeVos' 64-page "Michigan Turnaround Plan: Version 2.0" includes 134 separate action items and may be the most detailed set of objectives ever produced by a candidate for statewide office in Michigan. The Freep's analysis finds the plan wanting:DeVos says he wants a "pro-jobs tax structure" that starts with the elimination of the Michigan Single Business Tax. In a meeting Wednesday with Free Press editors and reporters, DeVos said he would "replace the majority of the revenue" with another "broad-based business tax" but isn't sure how that would be structured pending a "fact-based analysis and modeling" of various options. Given the $1.9 billion the SBT contributes to the state budget, about 20% of the general fund, DeVos ought to have a better idea than that at this point. You can get the whole plan online.
