Bills Would Create Tax Breaks for Cultural DistrictsThe City Pulse reports that Lansing officials are excited about a new package of bipartisan bills introduced in the state House that would give tax abatements to artists, galleries and cultural centers to encourage development in neighborhoods in need of an economic boost. The Cultural Redevelopment District Authority Act, introduced earlier this month, would provide temporary relief of sales, income and single business taxes to artists and qualified businesses operating in designated zones.Jamie Schriner-Hooper, executive director of the Old Town Commercial Association says "The arts have propelled everything that we've done and helped to increase the economic development that goes on down there.
