DNR Asks for Funds to Aid in Big Rock Purchase The Traverse City Record-Eagle reports that the Michigan Department of Natural Resources is asking the Natural Resources Trust Fund for millions of dollars to help finance a purchase of more than 500 acres that comprise the former Big Rock nuclear plant. Hundreds of acres of pristine wilderness and a mile of undisturbed Lake Michigan shoreline provide good reason for the state's interest, but a $20 million asking price and concerns over spent fuel rods that remain onsite are raising questions.
