Effort Started to Honor Architect of Michigan's Capitol

Inside of Capitol Dome by jacalynsnana

The LSJ reports that although Elijah Myers designed the state capitol buildings of Texas, Colorado and Michigan, his Detroit grave is marked only by a simple stone, with no indication that one of the more influential architects of the late 1800s is buried there. Myers' works include hospitals, high schools and town halls - at least one building in every state that was in the Union during his lifetime. A major stepping stone in his career was winning the commission for Michigan's Capitol in 1872.

The Michigan-based Myers Memorial Commission (517-373-5527) is working to raise funds for a marker detailing his architectural career that is threatened to fade into obscurity.
