Calls Heard to Cut Driver Insurance Fund Balance

The Michigan Catastrophic Claims Fund, created in 1979 to spread the costs of devastating accidents among motorists, has a balance of almost $10 billion and has paid out $4.9 billion over the last 27 years. Michigan motorists pay $137/year into the fund through car insurance bills and calls are rising to provide more oversight to the board that manages the money and to refund some of the money.
