Satisfy Your Appetite for Tasty Festivals in West Michigan

GRAND RAPIDS, Michigan ñ Visitors and locals alike both rave for West
Michiganís famous homegrown flavor; and at the peak of each regionís
celebrated fare is, of course - the food festival. Whether itís a mixture
of tasty cuisine from area restaurants, a festival in honor of a local
(or not-so-local) specialty, or good ëole BBQ youíre sure to find a food
festival to suit your tastes here in West Michigan.

The popular ìTaste Ofî Festivals give visitors a chance to savor both

Although the fishing on Lake Michigan is considered more ìsportî than
ìfeast,î Grand Haven has created its own festival to pay tribute to the
areaís bountiful waterways as a natural resource, while coinciding with
the regionís annual Salmon migration. The Grand Haven Salmon
Festival
(September 15 ñ 16) is a two- day festival full of family
fun for everyone. Enjoy a wine tasting and salmon cook-off, fresh catch
fish boil, fishing tournament, kidís games, educational and environmental
exhibits, grape stomping, fall harvest beer tent and much more.

While local specialties can be great for visitors, what if you happen
to be the local and want to experience flavors from other places ñ
perhaps other countries? Taste your way around the world in West Michigan
at the Kalamazoo Scottish Festival (August 28) on the Kalamazoo
County Fairgrounds. This annual event features traditional dancing,
entertainment, re-enactments, and food specialties. Downtown Lansing will
sound, taste and feel like the Caribbean at a celebration of music,
culture and food during the Caribbean Festival (August 26).

In the mood for BBQ? Youíll be the judge as national and local rib
vendors compete in rib and sauce cook-offs during Ribfest in
Kalamazoo (August 3-5). These ribs will set mouths on fire, but great
beers from local brewers will cool them down. Thereís plenty to do
besides tasting ribs, including talent contests, musical performances,
childrenís tent, entertainment, and rib cooking demonstrations ñ all at
Arcadia Creek Festival Place, downtown Kalamazoo. The Silver Lake Sand
Dunes Apple Festival & BBQ Cook Off
(September 15 - 16) will also
tempt sauce enthusiasts during the signature event ñ the Kansas City BBQ
Society Cook Off State Competition, where participants will compete for
the title of ìBest BBQ on the Western Michigan Shoreline.î And for anyone
willing to sacrifice his or her pride for a face-full of sauce, there
will be a Rib Eating Challenge on Friday.
