2006 Michigan Primary Election Report
The Battle Creek Enquirer has a report on the suprising upset by Tim Walberg of incumbent US Rep Joe Schwarz. Schwarz said "It's very difficult, almost impossible, to run against a single issue group that had unlimited funds funneled into the state." (the Club for Growth and members spent over $800,000 on Walberg's campaign) Michigan Liberal takes a look at the Schwarz campaign from a Democrat's perspective, concluding "If there's one lesson to be learned from Schwarz's defeat, it's that moderate Republicans no longer have a future in the Michigan Republican Party." Republican Michigander has a different take, saying "The biggest thing here scary to some bigwigs is that establishment endorsements really don't matter all that much. Almost all of the establishment in DC and in state party leadership backed Schwarz. Most organizations did as well. They all lost. McCain, Bush, the NRA, John Engler, Saul Anuzis, John Boehner and much of Congress. Walberg certainly isn't going to owe the establishment anything." click to
