DeVos Taps Ruth Johnson as Running MateYesterday Republican gubernatorial candidate Dick Devos announced Oakland County Clerk Ruth Johnson as his candidate for lieutenant governor. The Freep says that DeVos downplayed the obvious: She's a woman and a popular vote-getter in the state's largest Republican county. Bill Ballenger of Inside Michigan Politics says "Republicans can say we have a one-two punch from Oakland County. It says, 'Oakland County, we love you'." (referring to Johnson and senatorial candidate and Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard).Republicans hailed the selection, saying that Johnson's legislative and political experience will be an asset to the ticket (Detroit News editorial). Democrats were less than complimentary, saying that the Devos/Johnson Ticket is a "Marriage Of The Extreme" (Michigan Democratic Party Chair Mark Brewer). You can also read Lt. Governor Candidate Ruth Johnson bio from Devos for Governor web site. click to
