Rooftop Films and IFC.com are featuring a short film by Detroit filmmaker Brandon Walley as part of their Summer Shorts Series. It's called Vacancy and is a compelling visual exploration of the Detroit's Madison Lenox Hotel and its demolition. Despite protests from historical groups, the hotel, which stood from 1900-2005, was torn down and replaced by a parking lot. I think that anyone with a passion for historic structures will find it interesting.

Brandon has more films available on his web site including Unified Fields, which won the Best Michigan Filmmaker Award at the 2007 Ann Arbor Film Festival and is being included in Volume 8 of the Journal of Short Film. He is also co-director of the Detroit Film Center.
