Absolute Michigan will not share your email address with anyone. Period. Your inbox is safe with us. What we will share with you is a periodic but usually no more than weekly update, possibly including a special offer, potentially a prize or giveaway and definitely some great news about what is working and fun to do in the Great state called Michigan that we love!

Midwest Fest 2011 ~ September 28-October 1 Midwest Fest is an annual festival in Mt. Pleasant featuring indie, folk, electronic, experimental and pop bands from Michigan, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Minnesota and Wisconsin. With 20 bands over four nights, it's a great chance to experience some of our region's most innovative music. You can get a taste through the Midwest Fest bandcamp.

Electric Forest Festival ~ June 30 - July 3 We're starting things off with a bang and giving you a chance to win two tickets to the inaugural Electric Forest Festival in Rothbury, Michigan. Electric Forest is headlined by String Cheese Incident, Tiesto, Pretty Lights, Bassnectar & REO Speedwagon and will be one of the biggest festivals of the summer - get all the details are right here! Leland Wine & Food Festival ~ June 11 The Leland Wine & Food Festival is a northern Michigan tradition held on the second Saturday in June in Fishtown at Leland Harbor. Held from noon - 6 PM, this is a great chance to taste wine from nearly 20 wineries and food from all kinds of restaurants as you enjoy music! (Ed Roth is our winner - we asked him about his favorite Michigan festivals and he said that while there are so many great ones to choose from, Kalamazoo's Island and Blues festivals, Ann Arbor's Art Fair, and Detroit's Jazz Festival stand out for him!)
Lake Michigan Shore Wine Festival ~ June 18 The Lake Michigan Shore Wine Festival is a showcase event under the "Big-Top Tent" overlooking beautiful Weko Beach where guests sample (tastes or by the glass) all of the wonderful Lake Michigan Shore Wine Trail locally-grown-and-produced varietals and wines.
Island Festival ~ June 16-18 Get ready for some good times with three days and nights of reggae music rocking downtown Kalamazoo at Island Festival. Enjoy Jamaican and Caribbean inspired cuisine along with spectacular live reggae music under the sun, moon and stars featuring Jamacian superstar Everton Blender and reggae legends The Wailing Souls.
Detroit Windsor International Film Festival ~ June 22-26 The Detroit Windsor International Film Festival generates new opportunities for our community to engage in the growth of our film and creative culture and to promote our talented artists and craftspeople who engage in the art of storytelling- through film, video, games, the web, music and more.
Waterfront Wine Festival ~ June 25 The 6th annual Waterfront Wine Festival takes place on Saturday, June 25 from 4-7 PM in downtown Harbor Springs. It's an evening of wine, food, and live local music that benefits Scenic Michigan and the Harbor Springs Area Chamber of Commerce. Wineries include L. Mawby, Pleasantview Vineyards & Winery, Shady Lane Cellars, Pond Hill Farm, and Sandhill Crane Vineyards.
Muskegon Summer Celebration ~ June 30 - July 9 The Muskegon Summer Celebration takes place June 30 through July 9. Headliners include Pop Evil, Charlie Daniels Band, Cinderella, Smokin Joe Kubek, Trey Songz, Sugar Ray and Night Ranger and there's more than 30 in all. It's an all star music extravaganza with plenty family fun for all ages including art and other vendors, fireworks and carnival midway.
Charlevoix Up North Fourth ~ July 2 The first annual Up North Fourth is an authentic Northern Michigan backyard picnic experience on a grand scale featuring Short's Brews, Ribs, Pulled Pork, Potato Salad, Whitefish Tacos, Vegetarian Options, Live Music from Euforquestra & Delilah DeWylde and the Lost Boys, Family Friendly, 5 & Under are FREE! Absolute Michigan has a pair of passes to get you celebrating in style!
Common Ground ~ July 11-17 Common Ground is an annual celebration in downtown Lansing at Adado Riverfront Park along the banks of the Grand River. Anchored by headline, national-level entertainment with state-of-art production each night including Melissa Etheridge, Trey Songz and Lynyrd Skynyrd, the festival adds food vendors, fun activities and a comprehensive array of patron amenities to deliver an experience for all ages and tastes. They are offering a pair of tickets to the day of your choice!
Sip of Michigan Birthday Bash ~ July 15 Drink Michigan and the Rattlesnake Club in Detroit are joining forces for the 2nd annual Sip of Michigan party. In addition to being Drink Michigan's 1st birthday, the event is a benefit for Homefront Hugs, a Michigan-based organization dedicated to helping our troops, their families and our veterans. Enjoy Michigan wine, beer and spirits, food pairing stations, and live entertainment on the Detroit riverfront from 8-midnight at the Rattlesnake Club. The event is $35 and includes 35 tasting tickets and all appetizers and entertainment.
Taste of Kalamazoo Festival ~ July 21-23 Every year, on the fourth weekend of July, thousands of hungry festival-goers flock to downtown Kalamazoo to enjoy the endless variety of foods prepared by Kalamazoo's most popular eateries at the Taste of Kalamazoo Festival. More than 30 local restaurants and chefs will offer mouth-watering combinations of ethnic items, family favorites, exotic dishes, and local specialties along with music and all kinds of family fun - giveaway includes $10 in tasting tickets!
Hiawatha Traditional Music Festival ~ July 22-24 In its 33rd year, Hiawatha Festival in Marquette is the largest event of its kind in the Upper Peninsula, and features traditional-music styles that include bluegrass, old-time, Cajun, Celtic, acoustic blues and folk, singer/songwriters and dance. Mainstage acts include nationally known performers as well as regional and local favorites and the festival also offers a rich variety of experiences including workshops with offerings ranging from hands-on musical instruction to meet-the-artist sessions with mainstage performers. There are also special areas for children and teens with organized activities and performances designed for those age groups. Our giveaway is 2 passes to the festival, and while camping is available, it's not included!
Thunder Over Michigan ~ July 23 & 24 The Yankee Air Museum's annual Thunder Over Michigan Air Show at Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti welcomes back the U.S. Navy's Blue Angels in 2011. The show also features the USAF F-16 Viper East Demo Team, realistic re-enactments, Vietnam era aerial dog fight aircraft display and tours including the revolutionary MV-22 Osprey and over two dozen F/A-18 Hornets from across the country. A pair of general admission tickets could be yours!
Maker Faire Detroit ~ July 30 & 31 Motor City becomes Maker City with over 300 exhibiting makers, demonstrations, hands-on workshops, music & vendors. From robotics, electronics, and rockets to food and fashion finds - if it’s made, there's a good chance it'll be at Maker Faire Detroit. The 2 day event at the The Henry Ford in Detroit is an interactive and family-friendly showcase of creativity and cool technology that takes the Do-It-Yourself (DIY) mindset to the next level. We have a pair of passes to give away!
Paella In The Park ~ August 5 The Wineries of Old Mission Peninsula (OMP) and Porterhouse Productions present the second annual Paella In The Park, a summer music & culinary event in the heart of downtown Traverse City featuring the Cherry Poppin' Daddies. This evening festival celebration pairs the seven OMP wineries with seven regional chefs who will prepare 36" pans of Spanish paellas using OMP wines and fresh local and global ingredients over an open fire on-site.
Dunegrass Music Festival ~ August 5-7 Dunegrass Music Festival features the best local, regional and national touring acts like Donna The Buffalo, My Dear Disco, Seth & May, Grasshoppah, Rootstand and many others along with weekend camping, free admission for 12&under (13-17 - $30), the Rootenanny Beer Garden, fine food, arts & crafts, kids area, free shuttle to beaches, music/arts workshops and more.
Michigan Roots Jamboree - August 5 & 6 The Michigan Roots Jamboree is a two-day outdoor music and art festival featuring 25 bands from rock to bluegrass to jazz and funk, including Ella Riot (formerly My Dear Disco), NOMO, Steppin' In It, The Werks, Frontier Ruckus, Hoots & Hellmouth, Theo Katzman & Love Massive, Dragon Wagon, Graham Parsons and the Go Rounds, The Floorwalkers and more. This exciting, family-friendly camping event will bring together incredible acts on two stages in beautiful Riverside Park in Ypsilanti. Absolute Michigan had a pair of weekend camping passes for J. Dolan from Farmington Hills. She says she loves all our music festivals and never misses the Ann Arbor Art (and that we totally made her day)!
Farm Fest ~ August 11-14 Farmfest is a four-day traditional music festival. Mooosical Magic happens at Farmfest...it's a musician's playground. Gates open on Thursda, and main stage music begins on Friday. Drum Kiva, Fire Circle Jams, Dance Pavilion Events, Parkin' Lot Pickin', Candle Light Labryinth Walk, 2nd Stage Open Mic, Blow-Your-Face-Off Harmonica Contest, Kids-Kids-Kids Stuff!, Workshops, Great Food, Sacred Land ... it's all here!
Traverse City Wine & Art Festival ~ August 20 The annual Traverse City Wine & Art Festival takes place at the Village at Grand Traverse Commons and brings together over 20 wineries from northwest Michigan to celebrate wine (20+ wineries), a wide range of art, food from a dozen restaurants & music featuring Claudia Schmidt, Shout Sister Shout and Steppin' In It.
Hoxeyville Music Festival ~ August 19-21 Hoxeyville boasts 2 stages of national touring artist as well the best and brightest talent from around our beautiful state including Umphrey's McGee, Ivan Neville's Dumpstaphunk, Greensky Bluegrass, Great American Taxi, Ekoostik hookah, The Ragbirds, The Macpodz and many more! With an intimate capacity of 5,000 and an amazing lineup, 2011 is not to be missed and right next door, is a modern campground with full amenities.
Porcupine Mountains Music Festival ~ August 26-28 The Porcupine Mountains Music Festival is the only festival to take place within a state wilderness park. It's headlined by one of the most highly awarded ensembles ever assembled, Mountain Heart, and features great Michigan acts like The Ragbirds and the Red Sea Pedestrians along with regional and national talent, all in a beautiful, up-close and intimate setting that's family friendly and amidst the beauty of the Porcupine Mountains Wilderness State Park. Wine and Food Festival at Meadow Brook ~ August 27 & 28 The Wine and Food Festival at Meadow Brook is sponsored by Kroger & Belle Tire and features award-winning wineries throughout the state of Michigan and across the globe showcasing more than 100 varieties of wine including Chardonnay, Merlots, Rieslings, Sparkling, Dry Red and dessert wines. The festival’s on-site retail store will have select wines available for purchase, and in addition to wine sampling, there will be continuous live music, food vendors and seminars covering wine, food and other topics of interest. Traverse City Microbrew & Music Festival ~ August 26 & 27 The Traverse City Microbrew & Music Festival features microbrews and wine, cider & mead from over 50 craft brewers along with outstanding live music featuring Martin Sexton, Rebirth Brass Band, great grub, a silent disco and beer education. Two tickets could be yours!
Crystal Mountain's Taste of Michigan ~ September 3 Head north to Crystal Mountain Resort & Spa for Taste of Michigan. It's a celebration of all things Michigan and part of Crystal Mountain's Pure Michigan Labor Days! Sample Michigan-made wines, craft beers, homegrown delicacies and signature products from throughout the state while you enjoy live entertainment by northern Michigan's own Emmy award-winning Bihlman Brothers.
