City of Chelsea – An upcoming event to plan for is the celebration of the 175th Anniversary of the Founding of the City/Village of Chelsea. The celebration (June 25-28) will include a parade, youth activities, contests, music and folks in period costumes-family oriented fun. visit web site

Lansing - In 2009, the capital city will celebrate its 150th birthday. They're planning a year-long birthday party! At the request of Mayor Virg Bernero and City Council, the Lansing Rotary Club has committed to be the lead organization in the planning and coordination of Lansing's upcoming Sesquicentennial Celebration. To that end, a non-profit Lansing Sesquicentennial Corporation has been established and an impressive number of citizens have come together to begin the planning process.

Michigan State Parks – Michigan's 97 state parks and recreation areas draw more than 20 million visitors each year, but their existence did not really start until 80 years after statehood. Although Mackinac Island had been declared a national park in 1875 and became a state park 20 years later, the state park system managed by the Department of Natural Resources actually began in 1917, when the legislature authorized the purchase of 200 acres of land near Interlochen for a state park. visit web site

Tulip Time Festival in Holland – Tulip Time Festival is an annual festival in Holland, Michigan and this year marks the 80th Anniversary. Tulip festivals are held in many cities around the United States of America that were founded or largely inhabited by Dutch settlers. Trout Unlimited (founded in Grayling) – Celebrating their 50th anniversary, July 2009 will mark the 50th anniversary of TU's founding on the banks of the Au Sable River near Grayling, Michigan. The 16 fishermen who gathered at the home of George Griffith were united by their love of trout fishing, and by their growing discontent with the state's practice of stocking its waters with "cookie cutter trout"—catchable-sized hatchery fish. Convinced that Michigan's trout streams could turn out a far superior fish if left to their own devices, the anglers formed a new organization: Trout, Unlimited - the comma was dropped a few years later - dedicated to ensuring that wild and native trout populations were allowed to thrive, as nature intended. visit web site

Traver was the pen name of Marquette County attorney, prosecutor, and Michigan Supreme Court Justice, John D. Voelker, who used his experience with the legal system to write his court room thriller.
