3rd Down, Goal to Go: Michigan vs. Ohio State

John Brickner, Jr. says As if this game needs any more hype... and then delivers this a short but excellent highlight video.

We agree that "The Game" is probably already an 11 on the Spinal Tap Media Volume scale. However, we can't resist giving you more, more, more of UM v OSU (heavy on the YouTube):

  • Someone from Off the Reservation has put Al Pacino's "Inch by Inch" speech from Any Given Sunday to photo highlights from the Wolverine's 2006 season (bonus ending with Hail to the Victors). Awesome (and PG-13). Off the Reservation has some great posts on the game as well including their Keys to Victory and a couple more Beat OSU videos.
  • Michigan vs. Ohio State in the early 70s Video with Bo Schembechler discussing the rough run during the early 1970s. 1972-74 Michigan was 30-2-1 but due to Big Ten policy, didn't go to a bowl game after losing to OSU.
  • The Freep's Bill McGraw has a brief post in the Big Game Blog titled At Woody's Grave, part 2 where he quotes Hayes saying "The important thing is not always to win. The important thing is always to hope." A different side of Hayes for sure. Mitch Albom says that win or lose, Lloyd Carr has proved himself.
  • ThePalestra.com says they're changing the way people view media. Apparently, one of the ways media will change is that it will become harder to link to. They have a feature called "Ann Arbor's Cinderella Men" that interviews UM players about the movie that is pretty good. To find it, scroll down the page and click Michigan under Big Ten. There are a TON more articles under Ohio State as well (site founder Raj Nair is an OSU student).
  • We're linking to this CBS Sports video on the UM Defense mainly to say "Hey look! CBS is now uploading their own videos to YouTube."
  • Sports Illustrated writer Austin Murphy's Gearing up for The Game is an excellent preview talking with NFL alumni, coaches and UM & OSU players about the keys to the Game.
  • ESPN has a feature Countdown to Judgment Day that has a ton of ESPN video. I have to wonder who wrote that headline though...
  • In Michigan vs. Ohio State: Best game in history, Hardball's David Shuster takes a break from politics to taunt Buckeyes fans (and give a little insight). For example: ...despite the fact that most Buckeyes will eventually work for a Wolverine some day, the gang in Columbus has done one thing well: Put the stands in their football stadium almost on top of the field.
  • Fox Sports' Randy Hill says that the Wolverines and Buckeyes have never entered this skirmish with both teams unbeaten and ranked in the top two. He wonders, however, if this game merits "Greatest Game Ever" hype. I'm thinking he's just sore since the game is on CBS.

If it comes down to sheer fan bloody-mindedness, I don't think Michigan has a chance. You guys really take your football seriously, Gary.

Personally, I'm glad it will be settled on the field. I predict a 21-17 Michigan victory with an over/under on couch fires at 37. (check out On Fiery Furniture from the 614 for an excellent analysis of this.
