One Book One Community - East Lansing
The "One Book, One Community" program encourages the East Lansing and Michigan State University community to read the same book over a six-week period this fall and to come together to discuss it in a variety of settings. Although dozens of similar programs have been sponsored nationwide, this is one of the very few that bring together a city and a university.
Michigan Writers Series - East Lansing, All Year Long
The Michigan Writers Series recognizes and highlights the literary work of important writers who live and work in Michigan. Hosted by the MSU Libraries, the series features individual Michigan writers for an evening of readings and discussion with their audience. The readings, which are free and open to the public, take place on most Friday evenings during the academic year in the Library. With the writer's permission, the reading, discussion, and a short interview is taped and made available worldwide on the Internet. Over one hundred authors are currently available for listening!

A new writer's retreat coming up in August, 2010. The Idea Lab is a unique retreat for writers of every stage and genre of creativity. This will be a time when writers, whether neophyte or veteran can come to share in community with other writers, and learn more about the craft from seasoned professionals. Ms. Paula Tutman, of WDIV and author of "Deadline" will be our featured speaker; and Ms. Jane Friedman, editor of Writer's Digest Magazine will also be a featured presenter.
The most unique part of this retreat is that it approaches writing from a holistic point of view, meaning that we address not just the nuts & bolts of the writing process, but also the creative energetic work that enhances the writing process. The second unique thing about our retreat is that it is "all inclusive".
