The Detroit Free Press reports that in one of the tightest races in the 26-year history of the award, Frankfort's Brenna Banktson has captured the 2006 Miss Basketball award, given annually by the Basketball Coaches Association of Michigan and Free Press. Banktson, who will attend Western Michigan University, scored 1,966 career points and grabbed more than 800 rebounds and helped Class D Frankfort to a 90-11 record during her career.

As I posted in the comments on the Freep site, I think that it's great that this award is won by students from schools of all sizes.
I also have to give a shout out to the first winner of the Miss Basketball award - Leland school alum & schoolmate Julie Polakowski!
Whoo! 800 rebounds. Nicely done! She deserves it.
