I was holding my breath when the Detroit Lions appeared precariously close to fumbling away their perfect season yesterday before eking out a narrow 20-16 defeat at the hands of the Vikings.

Don't get me wrong - I've been a Lions fan since Charlie Sanders was hauling in TDs, even through the soul-testing "Another One Bites the Dust" era. Landry, Danielson, Mitchell: the names of our QBs have been anything but legendary but I still loved 'em.

The current team, however, has been an abomination, a mockery of what a football team can and should be. In my mind, this team must forever set itself apart as the worst team ever so that everything that brought us here can be laid bare and forever after owners, fans and franchises will look upon the 2008 Detroit Lions and say: No team was ever as screwed up as this one.

Besides, there's nowhere to go but up from 0-16!
