With the golden years of Motown now in it's rear view mirror, the city of Detroit currently maintains an impressive and eclectic mix of music venues, bands and fans. This is a city with music ingrained into the soul of it's people and culture. This is a city that has spawned some of the industry's biggest talent in past and present times. It is a hallmark of Detroit that seems to be ingrained into the people and culture of the city. In a place that has experienced such extreme highs and lows, the live music scene appears to offer solid ground to stand on, providing a much needed outlet to artists and audiences alike.
The New York Times recently ran a piece on the Detroit music scene that reveals a city with a number of impressive musical venues, a large pool of tenacious talent and an always appreciative fanbase. "In Detroit Clubs, the Music Scene Keeps on Rockin’" takes a look at the live music scene in Detroit and where to go to catch some shows.
...Motown left town a generation ago, leaving behind only the small white house that is home to the Motown Historical Museum (2648 West Grand Boulevard; 313-975-2264; www.motownmuseum.com). And while Eminem and Kid Rock still live and record there, they keep lower local profiles than their fame might suggest.
But the clubs where they and other Detroit acts got their starts are still very much a part of the city, developing performers who could join the ranks of other famous Detroit artists. Even though the city, and its auto industry, have been hit by hard times that threaten some venerable places, live music endures in the Motor City. - Continue reading

"GEARTH" JOINS ILLUMINA RECORDS TO FIGHT TEENAGE DRUNK DRIVING
Illumina Records and Promotions is proud to announce the addition of "GEARTH" to the labels Ground Control drunk driving prevention program.
Ground Control is a first of its kind program. It pairs the music of local performers from around the country with drunk driving prevention advertising. Illumina’s President and the founder of the Ground Campaign is Ron Bellanti. Mr.Bellanti is a twenty-year plus veteran of the national music scene. About the project he states, “ I cannot think of a better way to capture the hearts and minds of young people than music. I have loved local music for decades and think that this is an amazing opportunity for unsigned musicians to attract national attention. I cannot thank the dedicated musicians who participate along side of us. Without these young people we would literally be nowhere.
In exchange for the bands involvement they will participate in a massive national public relations campaign that will simultaneously draw attention to the bands music and educate young people about the dangers of driving drunk".
The project will be limited to 30 performers in each state. Each selected artist will have one song on a digitally distributed compellation CD. The CD will be distributed nationally to over 250,000 music fans. Other benefits will include a menu of promotional service such as ad agency quality posters and if the artist so chooses, the promotion of a CD release event.

We simultaneously raise drunk driving awareness through the good works of our musical acts. it is this type of exposure that allows us to fight against drunk driving fatalities and promote out acts music.
I cannot thank you enough
Sincerely

Cowboy Messiah is Detroit rock n' roll...
http://www.myspace.com/cowboymessiah
I happened to check out the band that posted on the blog and I have to tell you they are really good. They are called Cowboy Messiah. i would suggest they contact one of staffers here in Boston to discuss a slot on the Comp CD we are going to release in Michigan. The disc will be digitally distributed to over a quarter million people for free. There is also a massive PR campaign associated with the release of the Michigan Rockers for Life CD.Illumina is still searching for another 10-15 acts to include on the disc...AND THERE IS NO COST TO THE BAND WHATSOEVER. If any bands are interested they should post on this blog and provide with a MySpace page or web address and we will contact the band if we are interested. The Detroit Music Scene is one of our favorites.

I wanted to add a bit to yesterdays post. my reason for doing so is that a Michigan performer contacted us yesterday and was confused regarding what Illumina can do for his band. He specifically wanted to know if there was any costs associated with submitting or appearing on the Michigan Rocker for Life CD. THERE IS NOT!!! Illumina is a record and promotion company. We DO sell marketing services to unsigned bands. However the Michigan CD is NOT something we are selling. THERE ARE LOTS OF GREAT PRODUCTS AND SERVICES THAT WE DO IN FACT MARKET but this CD IS FREE!
Hey Everyone,
I have been looking around Absolute Michigan a little and there is a lot of incredible music there! I work over at Illumina Records and Promotions under Ron Bellanti. We at Illumina Records loved working with the many talented artists in Michigan. Here is an article that talks about our drunk driving prevention campaign Ground Control in The Michigan Journal
http://media.www.themichiganjo.....1966.shtml
Go check it out and remember WE ARE STILL LOOKING FOR ACTS FOR OUR COMPILATION CD. Anyone interested in being a part of the compilation CD and using their music to prevent drunk driving through Ground Control, feel free to send me an email (hmcardle@illuminarecords.com).
Thanks!
