Weird Michigan and the Dog Man
Linda S. Godfrey, author of the super-cool book Weird Michigan writes that Michigan may be known for its wolverines, but far stranger and more terrifying beasts roam its deep forests. The Dog Man, as he has come to be known, has terrorized all those who have encountered him in the state's northermost logging camps and woods. Michigan's Haunted Lighthouses
Over on Michigan in Pictures today there's a feature on The Haunting of Seul Choix Lighthouse. A while back we ran one on Absolute Michigan about the Ghost of the White River Light. Haunted Lighthouses lists some more of Michigan's haunted lighthouses including Sturgeon Point Lighthouse and the Old Presque Isle Lighthouse, from which the now disconnected light still shines on some nights. Don't forget the Presque Isle Lighthouse - similar name, hundreds of miles away on Lake Huron. Prairie Ghosts lists a couple more haunted Michigan lights on Lake Huron: the Thunder Bay Island Light and the Saginaw River Light. Michigan Ghost Hunters
I suppose if you have ghosts, you need people to hunt them down. Fortunately, Michigan seems to have a lot of ghost hunters. A few include the West Michigan Ghost Hunters Society (cool photo gallery!), Southeast Michigan Ghost Hunters Society (a radio station and check out that equipment list), the Southwest Michigan Ghost Hunters Society (read about their recent and ongoing investigations) and the Ghost Hunters of Southern Michigan (featuring investigations, collected true ghost stories and you gotta love that spooky music!). The Northville Tunnels
One of the most interesting web sites ever added to Absolute Michigan is called The Northville Tunnels. The tunnels exist at the site of the former Wayne County Training School and offers a deceptively deep tour of the grounds and tunnels. It's a bit hard to navigate but as you explore you'll learn a lot one of Michigan's supernatural sites.
