The Freep says that Grand Rapids is ahead of the game in eco-friendly living. I'm not sure about the rules of the game of eco-friendly living, but I hope it includes little plastic cars. The article begins

When Mayor George Heartwell looks out his office window, he sees an unusual sight in Michigan: a skyline full of construction cranes. The city is experiencing a building boom, and it's green. Four of the five giant new projects rising downtown are green-built.

Churchy, conservative Grand Rapids has become a visionary environmental role model and arguably Michigan's greenest city.

Is Grand Rapids still "Churchy"? In any case, it's an interesting primer to the green, LEED boom in GR that also lists some other green city projects across Michigan. Speaking of green and Grand Rapids, here's a post on the Grand Rapids Art Museum aka "the GRAM" from Michigan in Pictures.

We also have a video and feature about The Conference on Michigan's Future, an event exploring how issues of the environment, economy and fossil fuels are impacting Michigan. It takes place next month at Crystal Mountain and is worth checking out.

You can dig deeper into "green" issues by searching Absolute Michigan for things like energy, hybrid and wind energy.

What's greening up in your area of Michigan? Let us know in the comments!

It is the Democratic Party that is responsible for savaging the World’s climate with high CO2 emissions, not Republicans. Yes, you heard that correctly.
First of all, through its longstanding and continuing opposition to nuclear power, the Democratic Party has forced and will continue to force this country to rely on coal and oil for much of its energy needs for the foreseeable future. Nuclear power is safe and emits next to nothing in terms of greenhouse emissions, but your Democratic Party will have none of it. And anyone who thinks Barack Obama and the current cast in your Democratic Congress will build nuclear power plants is dreaming.
Secondly, the Democratic Party is also responsible for high CO2 emissions because its anti business policies have driven more businesses overseas to China and India(where the businesses can pollute the environment as they wish). Your Democratic Party seems to have forgotten that, as far as the greenhouse effect is concerned, the world’s environment is not helped simply by moving polluters from one spot to the next.
Thirdly, as if it were bad enough the Democratic Party’s anti business practices have driven more polluters to pollution heaven in China and India, the Democratic Party has shown absolutely no serious interest whatsoever in clamping down on CO2 emissions from China and India. Al Gore(a patron saint of environmentalism) and others have pushed for China and India to be exempt from Kyoto’s emissions standards saying its “unfair” for developing countries to be forced to reduce their CO2 emissions. Hey Al, in case you haven’t noticed China is now an economic powerhouse. Moreover Al, your position makes no sense. We have 10 years according to you to prevent an irreversible greenhouse effect and you’re ok with 3/8 of the World’s population doing nothing in terms of limiting CO2 emissions?
A co founder of Greenpeace parted ways with Greenpeace over its opposition to nuclear power. We should likewise part ways with the Democratic Party over its anti nuclear, anti business policies, and pro China and India exemption from CO2 emissions policies
