Michigan makes perfect sense as a lead market for the Volt -- before production is rolled out for other states -- as the lithium-ion battery cells are assembled into battery packs in Brownstown Township, Michigan while the Volt itself is built at a plant in Hamtramck, Michigan.

Expect a few Volts to be loaned to at least one utility company in Michigan for testing before the official launch by the end of this year, according to Automotive News. When production does begin in full-force, GM is planning to make 8000 to 10,000 vehicles during the first full year.
