Hook to Cook Gourmet Foods, Inc. is a Michigan Corporation owned and operated by a very talented couple named Mark and Debbie Hagendorff. The Hagendorffs have been married and business partners for over 30 years.

Mark and Debbie began taking guests out for day fishing charters and provide a gourmet lunch for the guests with the fresh fish just caught, hence the name Hook to Cook was created. The Hagendorffs would prepare the pan fried fish with their own special recipe fry mixes, made with only the finest ingredients. Charter customers were so elated with the flavor and the light and crispy texture of these fish that many of them encouraged the Hagendorffs to bring their recipes to market. After a year of working closely with a food scientist the Hagendorffs finally had their recipe perfected. It took another year to find a co-packaging company. The Hagendorffs developed the name, logo and the look and feel of the packages, thus Hook to Cook Gourmet Foods, Inc. was formed.

Nordic walking poles from Glen Arbor, Michigan help injured soldiers move – Radically improving balance, stability, gait, walking posture and walking comfort!

Many of the soldiers attending Edwards' Nordic Walking Classes came with canes and/or walkers. One of the soldiers had just been released from his wheel chair. All found much improved balance, stability, walking posture and walking comfort.

Sgt. Jose Cruz, Warrior Transition Battalion and a wounded 4th Infantry Division soldier, tried out the one-piece Nordic walking poles on Aug. 6 at the Soldier Family Assistance Center at Fort Carson. WTB Command Sgt. Maj. Jim Bunch spotted Cruz and also tested the poles for himself. Both found that the poles radically improved balance, stability, walking posture, walking gait and walking comfort. Both also could feel that the poles helped to reduce the stress to the shins, knees, hips and back.

Soldiers assigned to the Warrior Transition Battalion are recovering from all types of injuries and many experience balance problems from leg, back and traumatic brain injuries.

According to Susanne Harland, Fort Carson Station manager, American Red Cross, the Red Cross has a mission to help, as they can, with the recovery of these wounded warriors. She has been involved with helping wounded soldiers since the Vietnam War era.

“It’s my love, working with the wounded warriors,” she said. Harland said that she is always trying to find new and innovative ways to help the soldiers.

One way she has been able to help here is to bring in special programs and speakers. One such person was Pete Edwards, founder of http://WWW.SKIWALKING.COM and the American Nordic Walking System. She found out about Edwards through Wade Walrond, who is with the Walter Reed Station of the Red Cross in Washington - Edwards had donated much appreciated Nordic Walking Poles to his Wounded Warrior Program.

Edwards is a former marathon runner, who had to give up running because of his knee. He is also a running and skiing coach and is certified as a Nordic walking instructor. As part of his recovery, he discovered that Nordic walking, which is much like cross-country skiing without the skis and snow, could help athletes recover from their injuries.

According to Edwards, by using the poles — shorter than Nordic ski poles — for additional balance, the injured person has better control over his or her balance. Additionally, he said, the two poles are better than using a cane or walker, because a cane can cause a person to favor one side or the other, and both have the user hunch over, which may increase problems in recovery and balance. He said that he not only has used them for injured athletes, but has worked with people who have Multiple Sclerosis (MS), Parkinson’s disease (PD), Nueropathy, arthritis, bursitis, scoliosis, lumbar stenosis, fibromyalgia, post polio, osteoporosis, stroke recovery, cancer recovery and other limitations to walking.

Edwards came to the Soldier Family Assistance Center Aug. 6 to lead injured soldiers in the proper use of the walking poles and to train therapists in using the poles as part of rehabilitation programs. His son, Keefer Edwards, assisted him. They both flew in from Michigan, volunteering their services. Within minutes of using the poles, several of the soldiers showed a marked improvement in their mobility.

Sgt. Jose Cruz, WTB, said, “It’s really good, better than using the walker. I feel really good.”

Edwards donates one-piece Nordic Walking Poles to the Wounded Warriors Program – safer, lighter and much more durable than cheap twist-locking or flip-locking adjustable length/telescoping/collapsible poles. Skiers only use one-piece poles for skiing and they prove to be much more user friendly for walking than cheap collapsible poles that can fail unexpectedly, rattle and vibrate.

With the current slump in the economy, a large number of properties, both residential and commercial, are becoming vacant due to foreclosures, and repossessions.

This leaves Bankers, Brokers, and Investors holding a large inventory of property to maintain in order to resell or lease. As a direct result of these overwhelming vacancies and the limited resources available to many companies, many of these homes and commercial buildings may be falling into disrepair due to vandalism, theft, or weather.

In order to combat any blight that might detract from the value and appearance of their neighborhoods, many communities are adopting new ordinances to prevent mortgagees from neglecting their properties with fines and charges to be levied against owners.

Property Sentinels is dedicated to preserving your properties in a viable manner that will meet any city code as well as maintaining the quality of our neighborhoods.
