Island Festival – Kalamazoo, June 17 – 19, 2010

Kalamazoo Island FestivalWhat makes Kalamazoo a cool city and great weekend destination? Events like the Island Festival!

Escape from day-to-day routine and kick off summer with entertainment for all ages. From its humble beginnings, the Island Festival has grown to be the largest celebration of Caribbean Culture in Michigan. Also known as “A Taste of the Caribbean”, the Island Festival brings the unique cuisine of the Islands to Kalamazoo!

Entering its 15th year, the Island Festival has expanded to three days, and is slated for Thursday, Friday and Saturday June 17-19 at the Arcadia Creek Festival Place at the corner of Kalamazoo Ave. and Edwards in downtown Kalamazoo, MI.

The festival begins each day with regional vendors selling Caribbean cuisine and beverages. Walk through “little Jamaica” and experience the arts and crafts vendors selling items ranging from woodcarvings to handmade drums, t-shirts to jewelry and everything in between.

The music and food are complimented with Caribbean style beverages and are all served until 12:30am Thursday and 1:30 am Friday and Saturday.

    Dear Chef or Restaurant Manager

I am writing on behalf of International Nomad Publishing and the non-profit/ charitable organization 5000Fish. I am currently writing and compiling a recipe book entitled '50 States In 50 Weeks'. This exciting new book will include recipes based around traditional ingredients and foods from the 50 United States of America as well as the District of Columbia, Puerto Rico and a bonus section on Venezuela.

We are looking for aspiring and talented chefs, restaurant owners and managers who would like to be a part of this great culinary adventure that has many benefits for you personally, your company and giving you the opportunity to help others that are homeless and hungry.

We are looking for great chefs or restaurant managers like yourself to feature in the book (one from each state), who will present a recipe/ dish representing your state based on traditional ingredients and foods unique or common in your state with a photo. This should only take a few moments of your time and it will not only be for a great cause but no doubt help you immensely in your career.

The books will be professionally published in hardcover, paperback and eBook form. Those chefs or managers who wish to further participate will be given the opportunity to also create a short video post with cooking tips or an additional recipe that will be posted on the book's blog and website along with your profile if you wish.

Again, 10% of the proceeds of the book will be given to charity for feeding the homeless and hungry that so badly need our help. This is not only a great personal opportunity for you but a rare, possibly once in a lifetime chance to really make a difference in other people's lives. The 5000Fish non-profit/ charitable organization believes firmly in teaching a man how to fish so that he may feed himself for a lifetime and not just one meal. So the impact of your help will be sure to help many, many people over the course of time.

Additional benefits for you and your restaurant include:
    ·        Your profile posted on the book's website and blog
    ·        A link to your restaurant on the book's website and blog
    ·        Full credit in the book for your recipe and participation
    ·        Video blog opportunity

    What this does for you:
    ·        A HUGE boost for your resume as a published chef or manager
    ·        Increased credibility and reputation (this book will be sold worldwide)
    ·        Earning a reputation for helping others
    ·        Free marketing & advertising for yourself & your restaurant or enterprise
    ·        Increased traffic and website ranking for your website
    ·        Will attract more customers to your restaurant or business
    ·        A chance to capitalize on the opportunity for free publicity and press releases

Of course while the above are nice side benefits, the main purpose is of course to HELP OTHERS!

We would love for you to be involved in this great project and urge you to contact us right away if you are interested. This will only take a few brief moments of your time, but will impact others lives for good for years.

Looking forward to hearing from you soon...

    Regards,
    Tim Houghten
