As you follow the ongoing saga of the auto industry, I'm sure you're thinking "Well, what does this mean for advertising? Will I see as many car commercials?" No? Curiously enough, Advertising Age is thinking about such matters and notes that General Motors is planning to slash roughly $600 million in spending by 2012 and support only half of its eight brands. The article details GM's planned spending and also that of Ford & Chrysler and is worth a read. Forbes reports that Michigan is leading the way ... in unemployment. Along with Rhode Island, Michigan clocked in with a seasonably adjusted unemployment rate of 9.3% in October. The "good" news is that a dozen more states saw rates above 7%, so I guess we're not all alone.
