The Old Depot Restaurant Turns 20 Years Old

Johannesburg, MI, February 29, 2008- When most restaurants fail with in 5 years, The Old Depot Restaurant celebrates twenty years in the restaurant business on March 19, 2008.

After 3 months of work on the original logging era train depot that served the tiny village of Johannesburg during the early 1900’s. Karen and Leonard Pohutsky opened The Old Depot Restaurant on Saturday morning March 19, 1988, serving residents and visitors of northern Michigan, the traditional offerings, pies and desserts they are famous for. The Pohutsky family replaced the original building in 2001 with an updated structure, while preserving the depot’s historic character. The focal point in the new building is a 1926 Seth Thomas tower clock enclosed in glass for all to view. This unique feature happens drive the cupola clock dial outside on the roof. The Old Depot is a rarity in the restaurant business, as the owners along with their son Chris, are in the kitchen daily, helping to create and prepare the critically acclaimed foods that keep people coming back. Of course, they are not alone in their love of food and hospitality. The dedicated staff, which many have been with The Old Depot for years, is more like family than employees.

The Old Depot offers guests a warm, family comfortable, smoke free atmosphere to gather and enjoy classic favorites and exciting new creations. The wide ranging menu is supplemented by daily breakfast, lunch, and dinner specials. Utilizing local growers, butchers, and fishermen, when possible, allows for the freshest produce, meats, and seafood used when making their delectable entrées.
