The first stops on our month-long tour of Michigan restaurants were diners, breakfast joints and hometown favorites. We picked four of Michigan's most notable:

Was that all of them? Not remotely! We want YOU to post comments telling us about all the ones we didn't feature, why you love them and where people can find them on or offline.

The photo is of John Boy's Restaurant in Alpena. They have no web site but are located at 817 W Chisholm St, open 24/7 and Hawkins (the photographer) says:

Sit 'er down and order the blackberry pie. The coffee is strong and endless, and the whole damned family is working like champs... The place had just opened two days before we got there. John Boy's, off rt.23 in Alpena, Michigan. The magic stuff of road-trips.

I've not yet been to The Bomber, but Holy Heifer-breath, is that a lot of bacon!

I'm not sure if this qualifies as it is not specifically a diner or breakfast joint, but the Georgia Grits & Bits Waffle at Zingerman's Roadhouse (in A2) is enough to make you want to run home and slap somebody.

And my mom and I meet on Tuesday mornings at the Northside Grill. You can't go wrong if you order the Kitchen Sink.
