The Gardener is a seven minute short that was created for an intermediate-level film class at the University of Michigan's Department of Screen Arts and Cultures under the supervision of Professor Stashu Kybartas. The film was made over the span of two months, with the involvement of a number of local actors, most of them from the Ann Arbor Civic Theater and the Purple Rose Theater of Chelsea, Michigan. The 16mm film was shot without sound in Milford and West Bloomfield, Michigan and edited by hand.
John Glenn plays the Gardener, Molly Thomas the Fiance, Justin Brewer is the Inheritor, the Grandchild is Isaac Scobey-Thal, and the narrator and Grandmother is Olive Appleby. The film was written by Geoffrey George and Zach Hoskins, and produced and photographed by William Couch and Mike Zatorski. The film won Best Director (Geoffrey George) and Best Cinematography (William Couch) at the University of Michigan's Lightworks Film Festival in 2006.
