The Jack-in-the pulpit is a stemless plant that grows throughout Michigan in both open and dense woods, and occasionally in fields and pastures bordering woods (toxic to animals). Arisaema triphyllum (Wikipedia) is also known as Bog onion, Brown dragon, Indian turnip, Wake robin or Wild turnip.
The height ranges from 8 inches to 2 feet tall, and rather than stems, it has one or two stalks, with 3-parted leaves, at the tip of its flowerstalk. Its unique flowering structure is tinted different shades of green, greenish-white and purple. It flowers in the spring and the flower persists through summertime. In the fall, it is often covered in dense clusters of red berries.
