Editor's note: I might as well call this "Me vs. Charter Internet Rivalry" as my connection seems to be struggling to stay in the game ... we'll add more to this later today including some blogs to watch and photos!

This Saturday the University of Michigan Wolverines travel to play the Michigan State University Spartans at Spartan Stadium in East Lansing.

Wikipedia says that the Paul Bunyan-Governor of Michigan Trophy is awarded to the winner of the annual football game between the University of Michigan Wolverines and the Michigan State University Spartans. U of M holds the series edge at 33-19-2, and the trophy has been in Ann Arbor since 2002 when UM recovered it following MSU's 26-24 win in the "Clockgate" game on November 3, 2001 (click for the transcript and some photos). The Freep has a number of articles about the rivalry including one that says MSU coach Mike Dantonio embraces Tressel Doctrine. That's Tressel with an Ohio State which I would expect to be a horrible insult but I guess it isn't - it's talking about your biggest game rather than hiding from it. While UM's biggest rivalry is vs Ohio State next Saturday, Dantonio says "The Michigan game to me is a game we have pointed to since I got here, and that's the way it should be at Michigan State. It's a measuring-stick game for us."

The Detroit News says that it'll be the running backs that decide the game. Michigan tailback Mike Hart leads the Big Ten with 154 ypg and is third nationally in rushing but might not play while MSU junior tailback Javon Ringer is third in the Big Ten, averaging 120.4 yards rushing.
