The photo above is titled still standin and it was taken 3 months ago by paulhitz of the Livingstone Mansion in Brush Park aka "Slumpy". Over the weekend, Slumpy went wherever iconic buildings go at the end of their time.
Along with grisly pictures of the demolition on The Death of Slumpy, the detroitfunk writes:
The shell of the great Livingstone home is now part of Detroit's lost history. Affectionately named "Slumpy" by Mrs. dFUNK after the Humpty Dumpty fairy tale, this structure has had a place in everybody's hearts for several years now after its move to this lot. Abandoned after its move, it soon began to fall to pieces...
I think that you could very easily say "So what. Who gives a rip about some stupid old building? We've got real problems here." In one sense, you'd be right. Still, I think that for myself and maybe others, the fascination with Slumpy is born from seeing something that once was beautiful perish long before its time due to stupid mistakes and a lack of care. A cautionary tale if you will...
You can read all about this home and its history (and see lots and lots of pictures and some pretty amazing video) at slumpy … the William Livingstone Mansion in Detroit’s Brush Park from Michigan in Pictures.
