Photo Friday: Laughing Whitefish Falls

Laughing Whitefish Falls, Upper Peninsula, Michigan

The latest featured photo from our Absolute Michigan group was taken 364 days ago by James Phelps. Be sure to also visit his JMP Photography web site! It's a photo of the Laughing Whitefish Falls, a state scenic site. You can get bare-bones information from the Michigan DNR, but you can waste a lot more time clicking off to all of Michigan's other waterfalls at Go Waterfalling's page about the Laughing Whitefish Falls (and read more like this):

Laughing Whitefish Falls is in the Laughing Whitefish Scenic Site. This is one of the most impressive of Michigan's waterfalls. I believe it is the highest waterfall in Michigan that is readily visitable.

The falls can be found off of M-94, about 30 miles from Munising or Marquette, and just outside of Chatham ... The waterfall is a long slide. It looks bigger in person than in the pictures.

And, just because, here's a link to a Dream Cafe by Greg Brown which contains one of my favorite songs by Greg: Laughing River. Lyrics...

So goodbye to the bus. Good bye to payin' dues.
Goodbye to the cheers, and goodbye to the booze.
Well I'm trading in this old bat, for a fishing pole.
I'm gonna let the Laughing River, flow right into my soul.

I loved the name of this Falls and would like to use the pictures on my web site to let my members know about this water fall. Is it okay to use the pictures if I give the credit back to this site for the use of them in a banner on my web site. This site is used strictly for building Banners just because we loved creating art. Nothing on the site is for sale. Let me know if there is a problem with my using the pictures on my web site.

Hi Betty - I love the name of the waterfall too. Greg Brown has a song about this river that's great.

Most of the photos on Absolute Michigan are taken by people who don't work for Absolute Michigan, so we can't grant permission to use them.

Flickr (the web site where many, including this one are hosted) allows photographers to set rights for photos. The permissions on this one would appear to allow such use. You can see them by clicking over to Flickr and looking under "Additional Information" on the right.
