		<description>From Michigan History Magazine (pick up a copy):

&lt;b&gt;Michigan History Magazine remembers Gerald Ford&lt;/b&gt;

In 1999, President Clinton awarded former President Gerald Ford the Presidential Medal of Freedom for his role in easing the country through Watergate. In making the presentation, President Clinton noted, because of Ford’s leadership, “America was stronger, calmer and more self-confident. America was, in other words, more like President Ford himself.”

In the March/April 2007 issue, Michigan History offers extensive coverage of our state’s only U.S. president. In the first of two articles, Pulitzer-Prize winning author Sheryl James chronicles the life and times of the man from Grand Rapids who ascended to the White House after the 1974 resignation of President Richard Nixon. In her second article, James traveled to Grand Rapids on January 3, 2007, to observe how Michigan said farewell to the man who once said, “When I can’t sleep, I often think of Grand Rapids.” Both articles are heavily illustrated with historic photos and images from Ford’s funeral.
