Radio interview with writer Jim Harrison

Jim Harrison's latest novel, Returning to Earth, is set in the Upper Peninsula and Tom Ashcroft interviewed him last night on the NPR radio program On Point:

Poet, screenwriter and novelist Jim Harrison writes in the old style -- of big appetites, big passions, earthy love, men's men, and the woods. He did it in "Legends of the Fall," the novella that put a young Brad Pitt on the big screen, wrestling the bear in the rugged Montana west.

He's done it again and again in the deep woods of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, up toward Sault St. Marie, along the Great Lakes, where the Chippewa mixed with immigrant Finns and Swedes.

In his latest novel, "Returning to Earth", Jim Harrison's broad-shouldered, part-Chippewa hero is dying. He is a good man with a good wife who's yearning to leave what matters to the ones he loves and to die his way.

Jim reads and reflects on life, death and the UP and also takes calls. Check out On Point: Writer Jim Harrison.
