Saturday's Lansing State Journal reported that Michigan ranks 38th among states in rate of return on federal tax dollars, according to reports by the Northeast-Midwest Institute (NEMW) and The Tax Foundation. Michigan gets back about 85 cents on the dollar, but (according to the Governor's office) had we gotten back even 90 cents of each tax dollar in 2004, it would have received an additional $7 billion.

According to the NEMW, Michigan is 46th in per capita spending of federal monies, 20th in tax burden and 38th in return on federal dollars.
