Every June, filmgoers, actors, producers and directors come to the southwest Michigan resort village of Saugatuck to screen independent films from all over the United States in casual, intimate settings at the Waterfront Film Festival. The WFF was created in 1999 to provide a "middle coast" venue for independent filmmakers eager to show their work to sophisticated audiences.
2008 is the tenth year, and the festival will run June 12-15 and screen over 70 films . Some highlights include an outdoor screening of Double Dutch (documentary about the world double dutch/fusion jump rope championships at Harlem's world-renowned Apollo Theater), the return of The Last Big Attraction (a 10 year anniversary tribute to a locally produced film screened at the first festival), seminars, a Michigan film showcase and a concert by Rick James' Original Stone City Band (they're also screening the documentary I'm Rick James).
New this year is the Waterfront NewMedia Television Fest, a non-competitive platform for independent producers, directors, writers and actors to showcase their television and web-based projects.
