On Friday & Saturday, October 3 & 4, Lansing's Old Town will celebrate the third annual Old Town Oktoberfest. The Old Town Commercial Association (OTCA) presents Mid-Michigan’s only German-style event –one the German’s would be proud of.
Patrons can enjoy a variety of authentic German-style food, beer and entertainment at the intersection of Turner and Grand River on Friday, October 3 from 6-11p.m. and Saturday, October 4 from 2-10p.m.
Oktoberfest began as a celebration of Prince Ludwig and Princess Therese’s marriage on October 12, 1810. This year, Munich is celebrating the 175th anniversary of Oktoberfest. Throughout the past 198 years, Oktoberfest has become the world’s largest festival and brings nearly six million attendees to Munich during the sixteen-day event to experience their Bavarian culture.
The original Oktoberfest features six beers known as Oktoberfestbieren. Old Town’s Oktoberfest features seven authentic German and Oktoberfest beers, including three of the original: Hacker-Pschorr, Spaten Oktoberfest and Warsteiner. Attendees indulge themselves in delicious German food at Oktoberfest in Munich and Old Town offers an assortment of the same types of hearty goodies. Doughy Brötchen, Sauerkraut Potato Cakes and Knockwurst are just a taste into the range of authentic German food at Old Town’s Oktoberfest.
In addition to offering traditional German beverages and food, Old Town will provide German entertainment to complete the authentic Oktoberfest experience. Live polka music and dancing will energize attendees into a true German spirit.
Souvenir mugs are amongst the most popular items sold at Oktoberfest in Munich. Included in the price of an Old Town Oktoberfest ticket is a souvenir glass Oktoberfest mug. These souvenir mugs allow Oktoberfest attendees to cheers like a true German or “Prost!” as they do in Munich.
As Oktoberfest in Bavaria has already started and is still underway, Old Town is preparing for their version of the festival. While the German’s have been drinking, eating and dancing for days now, Old Town will soon follow their tradition and celebrate Oktoberfest in the heart of Old Town, Lansing.
