In 2006, the Detroit Tigers came just about as close as you can to the top of the game of baseball. They start all over again in 2007 with spring training at Joker Marchant Stadium in Lakeland, Florida. Pitchers and catchers don't report until Thursday, but you can get started today...
Spring Training Schedule & Tickets
You can get the Tiger's spring training schedule and tickets from Spring Training Online. You can get tickets from the Tigers' Official Site at MLB.com too, but I think Major League Baseball might throw us in jail if we send you there. If you need to read something to get warmed up, how about New Feeling for Tigers at Lakeland by Jim Hawkins in the Royal Oak Daily Tribune?
Meet your 2007 Detroit Tigers
Mack Avenue Tigers (remember that name, folks!) has put together a great roster of Detroit Tiger players who "stand a good shot at making the team out of spring training" with links to their MLB.com profiles, Wikipedia entries and more. While you're remembering things, remember Tigers Central and their 40-man roster page too! If you're thinking about trying to earn a spot on the team (or at least getting a shot), you can attend the Tigers tryout camp in Lakeland on Monday, March 5, 2007.
Lakeland, Joker Marchant Stadium, Tiger Town and Tiger Spring Training history
The Detroit Tigers began coming to Lakeland, Florida for Spring Training in 1934 and have been coming back every year, making for the longest lasting relationship between a Major League baseball team and a Spring Training host city. According to Lakeland's page on Joker Marchant Stadium, "Joker" Marchant was the longtime and popular director of Lakeland's Park and Recreational Department. When not hosting the Detroit Tigers, the stadium and Tiger Town complex are the home of the Lakeland Flying Tigers, the High-A affiliate of the Detroit Tigers. Also see the google map of Tiger Town and check out Ballpark Digest's visit to the Joker Marchant!

For the duration of spring training, you'll be able to find Lakeland Local in the Absolute Michigan blogroll to the right!

I think The Daily Fungo (http://www.dailyfungo.com) does a great job on the Tigers too.
